Allen Warnungen zum Trotz schließt Prinzessin Hezhi einen verhängnisvollen Bund mit dem schwarzen Gott, damit sie dessen Widersacher töte und selbst zur Flußgöttin werde. Sie ahnt nicht, daß sie eine Marionette in einem übermenschlichen Kräftespiel ist.

Everywhere the River God touched, he ruled. But the world beyond his reach was a dangerous riot of gods, ghosts and strange spirits.
